An Architectural Escape Hidden within Cornfields

Imagine driving your way through the Midwest to your next destination. Cornfields create a frame of your view as long as you can see. Vibrant green stalks that stand higher than your vehicle race past you, row after row. Miles and miles you drive and don’t see anything. Until the most peculiar landscape of different shapes emerges from the crown of the corn. The abstract scene that grows larger as your vision focuses can be recognized as buildings. Just before reaching the main bridge into town, along the side of a hill, letters carved boldly read DISCOVER COLUMBUS.

Columbus, an unlikely mecca of modern architecture offers sights like no other. The city paints an architectural masterpiece from the churches, schools, libraries, houses, and even banks. Holding true amazement to it and encompassing a unique character within the architecture that is ranked sixth nationally. In the summer of 2017, the sparked interest of a cinematographer by the name of Elisha Christian captured the town's essence on film in a movie called, “Columbus”. This has brought an ample amount of attention and popularity to Columbus overtime.

Diversity surrounds the town as it is home to the Cummins Engine Company headquarters, which is one of the largest international companies in the world. This company is what brings in the variety of ethnicities into the city and helps make up the population of around 47,500 citizens. But also sparks fraught times due to the annual dismissal of employees.

With the dismissal of the old, a new generation of large diversified groups of individuals arrive. Proudness stands with this town as it welcomes all cultures with open arms. In the month of October, laughter and cultural music swell the city's streets as many cultures come together in celebration during the annual Ethnic Expo. Individuals' faces light up with amazement as they attempt a new dish that someone from their own community prepared in the inspiration of their own culture.

If you are new to Columbus you may notice a common interest within the people of the city. It is not something to agonize about, but a very evident factor in the way people may be perceived. The city holds a very large number of upper and middle-class privileged individuals. This results in the motivation of strong competitive attributes within individuals. Displaying a higher competitive socio-economic standpoint for the community.

Though the norm of agriculture and conservativeness of the Midwest may cause people to stray away, Columbus embodies a unique attractiveness that will make you want to learn more. Through the stable economy, acceptance to a multitude of cultural diversity, and a mecca of architecture, Columbus holds an indescribable idiosyncratic way about it.
