My Role
In my first year on staff, I was a staff member of our Bull Dog News Network. In the second year, I became a Producer and co-produced the weekly "News Show". As a producer I would organize and decide what stories are covered in each show, communicate daily with staff members, assist the staff members in the editing process, co-anchor the "News Show", and provide constructive criticism in order to help the staff grow in their skill. We created rubrics to help staff members keep track of deadlines and to provide a guide for what we would like to see in their segments. We conducted daily check-ins to assist and help the staff to complete their work.
Team Building
Every other week, on Friday when we post our show, we have a fun day. Some examples include group icebreakers or playing games as a group in the publication room. At the beginning of the year, we played a name game that allows everyone to get to know each member of the staff very quickly. In addition, the producers and advisers will organize a donut and show review day. We provide donuts for the staff to eat while we reflect on the work that the staff creates from the last few shows. All these activities allow us to bond as a staff and make this experience more fun.
